Monday 5th June Meeting

Monday's meeting will hopefully be REALLY interesting.
As well as welcoming Sir Bernard Ingham who will be presenting his ideas about Nuclear Power (Amongst many other things, Sir Bernard Ingham is Secretary to SONE, Supporters of Nuclear Energy). We will also be welcoming Blogging Consultant Lloyd Davis and his colleague, (FWI member) Debbie Davies from Perfect Path. Lloyd will be introducing us to this wonderful new blog site that he has orchestrated for Fulham WI and answering our questions on what blogs are and how they differ from websites.

We will also be voting (in time to take our decision to the NFWI AGM in Cardiff on June 7th) on the resolutions which are as follows:

Renewable Energy
"This meeting urges all levels of government to put in place legislation and policy requiring the use of renewable energy technologies in all new buildings, re-building and renovation”

Sport for a healthy population
"This meeting urges HM Government to:
• recognise that participation in sport is an essential factor in the creation of a healthy population;
• ensure the re-establishment of competitive (mainstream) sport in the curricula of all schools; and
• take such steps as are necessary to reverse the decline in the availability of sporting facilities for all citizens, particularly in light of the 2012 Olympics being awarded to the city of London.”

Packaging Action Day - 20th June 2006

STOP PRESS
FULHAM WI LADIES who are available on Tuesday 20th June at 10:00, please congregate outside Sainsbury's in Russel Square for a national press photoshoot at 10:30am. Please come armed with packaging that you have collected over the next week or so. The idea is to show what a waste it is.

Somehow we have to get the message across to supermarkets that packaging has reached the OTT stratosphere of huge proportions.
So what are we planning to do to get the message across? Perhaps we could sign a Customer Complaint book in our local supermarket or we could confront the Managers with piles of packaging or perhaps we could just let them know not to wrap our Swedes in cling film in future.

Don't forget the Plastic Bags... Plastic bags are not only a scar on the countryside where they are discarded as litter but not being biodegradable are filling up our landfill sites. However we must do what we preach so lets try to remember linen shopping bags or resusable bags next time we leave the house! There are especially lovely shopping bags available from NFWI.

The NFWI is organising a ‘Packaging Day of Action’ on 20 June where WI members can return excess waste to supermarkets. For details, contact the Public Affairs department on 020 7731 5777

WLAC Quiz Night - "A Night with the Bard"

Last year our Birght Young Things Ball raised £2000 for West London Action for Children, this year we would like to help them raise more funds by attending (in our droves ie. bring friends family and take a whole table if you can - tickets £25 pp) their annual Quiz night ednesday 18th October 6.30-10.00 address: St. Paul's Girls' School, Brook Green W6 7BS. Astrology Workshop

Saturday 17th June

Some of you will remember Ana-Isobel who gave a fascinating talk at our March meeting and has offered to run a workshop for Fulham WI members to go into further detail about the amazing world of astrology. The workshop will last approximately two hours and Ana-Isobel will discuss the core elements of astrology and teach you how to read your own personal chart. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided and you will have a personal astrological chart to take away with you. The cost will be around £15 and the workshop will take place on Saturday 17th June from 11am 1pm and will cos £10 on the day. Cartier International Polo

Sunday 30th July 2006

Back by popular demand is a trip to the Cartier Polo. Despite a bit (OK, rather a lot) of rain last year
, this annual event is always a wonderful day out and a great opportunity for polo watching, people watching and some serious shopping.
Tickets are £50 and this cost includes your ticket in the North Stand for the two polo matches, a pic-nic and transport to and from Parson's Green by luxury coach.
