Puppini Sisters and Tonic Attack - monday the 7th August

Next Monday's WI meeting looks to be V V glamourous and V V healthy, we will be welcoming the delightfully burlesque new singing sensation the Puppini Sisters.
They will be speaking to us about all sorts - life in the world of popular music, their sudden rise to fame, being gorgeous and phenomenally musically talented etc, we will also be welcoming Oliver Dowding from Tonic Attack. He has been an organic farmer for 16 years (after 13 as a conventional farmer) and in the past two years has diversified into a couple of special areas - one is selling ocean water ?? and the other is growing wheatgreass juice with a phenomenal difference to any seen before. Should be most interesting and question provoking. We really hope there will be an excellent turn out at this meeting to welcome our fabulous speakers.
Please note that the meeting will be at 7:30pm at Novellos unless it is ridiculously hot, as it was last month in which case we will meet on Parsons Green (bring a rug or something to sit on and either your own refreshments or buy them at the white horse and bring them over).

A New President for Fulham WI

It will soon be time for Fulham WI to have a new president - Lucy has done it for three years now and although she has loved every minute of it, it is time to hand over. The role becomes vacant as of November this year (at the FWI AGM meeting). If you are interested in standing for President (you should be a fully paid up member of Fulham WI, be able to commit a proportion of your time, be vaguely PC literate, tolerant and not too prone to nervous breakdowns) please contact Lucy to discuss what is involved - all enquiries welcome. 'Job Share' is a possibility and commitment is for at least one year.

Cartier Polo trip

Thanks to Jo Hackett for organising yet another fabulous day trip to the Cartier Polo yesterday. Thanks to Jo and her sister for the yummy picnic and to Niki Hutchinson for the delicious cup cakes. It turned out to be a perfect day - without the horrendous rain of yesteryear. very successful. Here are a few piccies taken by Sara Sargent.

A Quadraplegic's Journey Through Africa - 13th September

Some of you may have heard about the remarkable young man Colin Javens. Tickets for his talk "A Quadraplegic's Journey Through Africa' at the Royal Geographical Society on Wednesday 13th September, in which he will describe his unique journey accross Africa are now for sale. The BBC correspondent Frank Gardner OBE will be speaking with Colin Javens about the adventures of Driving Home. Please use the downloadable application form if you would like to attend. Tickets are £10.

San Lorenzo Fuoriporto 'Pink Lunch' October 4th

A date for your diaries is the 'PINK' charity lunch at San Lorenzo Fuoriporta, Worple Road Mews, London, SW19 7PA, exact details to be confirmed but for those who have flexi diaries, do come along, it will be a chance to catch up, hear an interesting speaker and sample the delicious San Lorenzo fare.

San Lorenzo Dinner Cancelled

Sorry girls the dinner at San Lorenzos Wimbledon that was organised for the 18th July is cancelled - they will be arranging another one for September and will give us plenty of warning

SEARCHING FOR AN ECO TEAM LEADER

ECOTEAMS:

As part of the 90@90 project, the NFWI is launching practical projects that help us reduce our impact on the environment. Its first project is EcoTeams, run in partnership with Global Action Plan, a London-based environmental charity. It is now recruiting WI members who are interested in becoming EcoTeam leaders and are available to attend a training day in London on the 11th August 2006.

EcoTeam leader’s responsibilities:

·       Recruit 8 members for your EcoTeam
·       Facilitate monthly meetings
·       Support members of your team

The program:

·       Groups of 8 WI members who each represent their individual households
·       Through practical guide books and materials learn fun and creative ways to reduce their waste, water and energy consumption

·       Meet monthly for four months and share their experiences, ideas and achievements
·       Compare bills as the more they reduce the more money they save!
