Make me Beautiful – expert advice from make-up artist Emma Turle

Fresh from the MTV Europe Music Awards in Denmark, Emma Turle, acclaimed make-up artist to the stars whose work has adorned the pages of Vogue, Harpers Bazaar and In Style, will be speaking to the ladies of the Fulham WI all about the essentials of make-up.

Emma will demonstrate on one lucky volunteer just how simple it is to achieve the perfect day look, which can then be transformed into a stunning look for night. Naturally she will be on hand to answer all your questions and divulge trade secrets so we can all be looking our best for those Christmas drinks parties, just around the corner.

Even more importantly Emma has requested that ladies bring in their make-up bags to receive a complete grilling from the ‘make-up doctor’ as to what in your bag is necessary and what is just a pure marketing gimmick – think Trinny and Susannah (but without the inappropriate body touching)

It is vital you attend this meeting if you want to look your best during the festive season. As always please turn up early in order to guarantee yourself seat!

Stop Climate Chaos Event- 4th November 2006

The I Count Event: Saturday 4 November, Trafalgar Square, 1-3pm

As many of you will know, the NFWI is part of the Stop Climate Chaos (SCC) coalition who campaign for political action to stop climate change. On Saturday 4th November SCC are holding the 'I Count Event' whereby thousands of people will descend upon Trafalgar Square to be part of an afternoon of entertainment, inspirational speakers and support for swift action to tackle climate change.

This date is particularly poignant since it is on the eve of a critical climate summit in Nairobi, Kenya, where SCC will be putting pressure on the UK government to forge the way for tough global action on this issue. It is hoped that shortly afterwards, the Queen will announce the introduction of a climate change bill to make law year-on-year cuts in carbon dioxide emissions- the main cause of climate change.

If you want to take part, the NFWI has arranged a meeting place for WI members to get together for the event. This is outside Pizza Express, on the corner of Duncannon Street and the Strand (map) at 1pm. Nearest tube: Charing Cross

Christmas Pudding Drive

Delight your taste buds with a Carved Angel Christmas Pudding!

For THE second year running Becca Bailey will be heading up ‘The Carved Angel Christmas Pudding Drive’ (a popular fund raising method). She is taking orders from FWI members and their fellow time-poor family, friends and colleagues who will love these perfectly fruity, light and mouth-watering puddings - made by the world-famous ‘Carved Angel’.

Every pudding weighs 675g, serves six to eight people. And costs £15.95 and is presented in a very practical re-usable, earthenware pot (dishwater and microwave safe) for all year round use. The puddings are also smartly presented in hand-tied muslin cloth and ribbon, with cooking instructions attached. The puddings will be ready for you to collect at the December meeting (Monday 4 December 2006), well in time for Christmas. These puddings also make the perfect gourmet gift for connoisseurs who appreciate the finer things in life.

This year a proportion of the profits will be given to the Fulham WI to fund speakers/outings and the local Charity, Small Steps School which helps parents to help their own children who suffer with cerebral palsy and other forms of motor and sensory impairment. This worthy charity relies solely on grants, donations and fundraising in order to operate so every little bit certainly helps.

These puddings come highly recommend: Nigel Slater from The Observer commented: “The Carved Angel Christmas pudding is made to Eliza Acton’s time old recipe and is one of the best I have come across”. These puddings are truly the next best thing to cooking it yourself, or why not palm it off as one of your own homemade creations – no one would suspect.
