We are pleased to welcome:
Babette Gallard: Learn How to Feed Your Mind and Save the Planet by embarking on A Modern Day Pilgrimage
After completing over 3000 pilgrimage kilometres, on horseback, Paul Chinn and Babette Gallard know more than most about the benefits of being a pilgrim and are keen that other people should know too. But this is not a religious crusade. Their sole aim is to promote pilgrimage because it is one of the most eco-friendly forms of travel possible and a unique opportunity to take time out from the daily grind, test personal boundaries and exchange views with people of just about every nationality and moral persuasion possible.
Babette's talk to Fulham WI will cover:
- an overview of pilgrimage history and information about the St. James Way and the via Francigena that they have completed
- a description of their team; 2 humans, 3 horses and 1 dog!
- and an enthralling account of the highs and lows of their own journeys.
Esther Mackay: Kabbalah Today- A spiritual revolution
Esther, from the London Kabalah centre will give us an insight to the ancient belief system of Kabbalah. Many of us will only have heard about Kabbalah through its celebrity connections so this will be a great opportunity for us to find out the truth behind the myth!
Kabbalah — the world’s oldest body of spiritual wisdom — contains the long-hidden keys to the secrets of the universe as well as the keys to the mysteries of the human heart and soul. Kabbalistic teachings explain the complexities of the material and the nonmaterial universe, as well as the physical and metaphysical nature of all humanity. Kabbalah has always been meant to be used, not just learned. Its purpose is to bring clarity, understanding, and freedom to our lives — and ultimately to erase even death itself.
Catherine Conway of Unpackaged will introduce herself to Fulham WI and is keen to pick our brains over some drinks after the meeting:
Catherine Conway set up Unpackaged in 2006 in a bid to find a solution to the growing packaging problem and offer consumers a viable alternative.
Unpackaged sells organic wholefoods (rice, pulses, grains, cereals, herbs, spices,
nuts, dried fruit) and the entire Ecover range as refills. Customers are encouraged to bring their own containers for refills or they can purchase a one off reusable container that packs flat and can be brought back time again for refilling.
Unpackaged is a vibrant, modern business that encourages customers to consider reuse as an option above recycling and disposing of unnecessary waste. See www.beunpackaged.com for a full product list and where to buy.
Due to the WI anti packaging campaign, Catherine is particularly interested in the views of WI members to help develop her service.
