from 7.30pm in the upstairs function room at THE PETERBOROUGH.
The November meeting will hear the treasurers and secretaries reports for the AGM.
The November meeting will include talks from:
Brigid Keenan – Diplomatic Baggage
Brigid Keenan was a successful fashion journalist and women’s editor of The Observer in London. Then at 33 she fell in love with, and married, a globetrotting diplomat who is now the EU roving Ambassador to Azerbaijan. And during the course of his globetrotting, Brigid found herself following him to some rather unusual places and situations, including postings to Ethiopia, Brussels, Trinidad, Barbados, India, West Africa, Syria and Central Asia. Now an author, Brigid is full of stories of life as a trailing spouse and is sure to entertain us with an amusing and enlightening international talk!
Dr Deepa Apté - Ayurveda
A qualified Indian medical doctor and Ayurvedic practitioner and director of AyurvedaPura.com will be coming to talk about Ayurvedic medicine/health and beauty products, and how they can be used by everyone to discover and maintain good health, balance and personal wellbeing. Ayurveda is the ancient holistic medical system from India that has been practiced for more than 5000 years. In essence, Ayurveda views illness as caused by an imbalance in a person's physical or mental constitution. This can be remedied by identifying that person’s normal healthy Doshas (or constitution), and any imbalances in those Doshas, seeking to gently bring that person's body and mind back into a healthy balance. It is therefore perfect for curing a wide range of physical ailments, aiding a person maintain their natural beauty, helping the body to detoxify, ensuring a clear, alert mind and promoting a general sense of wellbeing.
Emma Porter – Operation Christmas Child: Shoe Box Campaign
Many of you will remember Emma, who introduced herself and The Samaritan’s Purses' charity 'Operation Christmas Child' 2 years ago. This annual project enables caring individuals to fill ordinary shoe boxes with small toys, school supplies, sweets, and other gifts for needy children around the world. Last they we sent 1.24 million shoe boxes from the UK to children in hospitals, orphanages, Internally Displaced Persons camps, homeless shelters and impoverished neighbourhoods. With our help they want to reach even more children in the poorest parts of the world in 2007. Emma will spend 5 minutes updating us on how we can get involved – after all, Christmas is just around the corner!
