Canape Making Day at Denman College, January 2008

Thanks to Niki for taking the photos which are now on the FWI Flickr album and a big thank you to everyone who came along to the Canape Making Day at Denman College on Saturday 19 January. We're sure you'll all agree it was an amazing day- move over Nigella, Fulham WI girls are great in the kitchen!

New NFWI Public Affairs Blog

Fulham WI February Meeting: Feel Good in your Body and Soul

Monday 4th February, from 7.30pm in upstairs function room of The Peterborough

The evening will include:

Chantelle Bra Fitting

French lingerie brand, Chantelle re coming in to give a talk on the importance of wearing the correct size bra and the importance of being measured regularly and correctly. There will be an opportunity to be measured and a Q&A session.

Laurel Wilson, 'The Situation in Kenya'

Larel's friend is on the frontline in Kenya. She will be coming along to talk to us about raising support for the local community there and to raise awareness of the situation.

Kate Wynn, 'Designed to Impress'

Kate will be coming in to give us a brief overview of her new wedding project.

Tasting and Cellar Tour with Handford Wines

Martin Buchanan from Handford Wines has invited Fulham WI to a wine tasting and viewing of Handford Wine's cellar on Saturday 16th February. Martin is a very experienced and enthusiastic wine dealer who will conduct an 'old world vs. new world' style tasting. The tasting and tour will take place at the Handford Wine Shop at 105 Old Brompton Road and will start at 2pm. The cost is just £10 and all friends/boyfriends, etc. are welcome. To reserve a place please bring your payment to the meeting.

FWI Subs

All subs for 2008 are due at this meeting. The cost for the year is £27 and cheques should be made payable to Fulham WI.

Fulham WI January meeting: The Joy of Lex

Monday 7th January, from 7.30pm in The Peterborough

The January meeting will include:

'The Joy of Lex'

Tim Moorey sets cryptic crosswords for a variety of newspapers. He is coming to talk to us about his intriguing hobby and will also delve into some of the mysteries of the English language. Tim's talk will explain the skill of setting these puzzles and  why crosswords are good for us; as well as giving insider tips on how to solve them. He will also provide a fascinating insight into how and why English has become such an international language. The whole talk provdies a very enlightening discussion to brighten up post-Christmas blues and also be great fun!

'Why Farming Matters'

Tom Hind willl talk to us about the National Farmer's Union's (NFU) 'Why Farming Matters Campaign' which seekd to explain the importance of farming to Britain. He'll  also discuss the joint efforts of the NFU with the NFWI to highlight the plight of dairy farmers through the 'Great Milk Debates' across England and Wales; as well as talking to us about any other aspects of the food and farming inductries. This is a great  opportunity to discuss these current matters with an expert, and we look forward to welcoming Tom for the evening.
