Monday 2nd June, from 7.30pm at The Peterborough
At this meeting we are very pleased to be welcoming:
Fine Cell Work
Fine Cell Work is a charity that teaches fine needlework skills to prisoners- 80% of whom are men. Their fine work is superb and includes needlepoint; embroidered and patchwork cushions and magnificent quilts, and belies the surroundings they are made in. Indeed Fine Cell Work cushions are to be found in some of the swankiest of interiors from grand country houses to London boutique hotels.
Support for the charity comes from the Royal School of Needlework and the Embroiderers' Guild whose volunteers teach in 22 prisons around the country. There is also support from top names in the world of design such as Melissa Wyndham, Nina Campbell, Cath Kidston, John Stefanidis, Allegra Hicks and Jasper Conran who donate designs or commission work for their projects. 2010 will see two Fine Cell Work quilts, specially commisssioned, exhibited at the V&A Museum.
Bridget Graham, a volunteer with the charity, will talk about getting stitched up inside.
