SEPTEMBER SPEAKER
Persephone Books Persephone prints mainly neglected fiction and non-fiction by women, for women and about women. The titles are chosen to appeal to busy women who rarely have time to spend in ever-larger bookshops and who would like to have access to a list of books designed to be neither too literary nor too commercial. The books are guaranteed to be readable, thought-provoking and impossible to forget.
Titles include novels, short stories, diaries and cookery books. They are all carefully designed with a clear typeface, a dove-grey jacket, a 'fabric' endpaper and bookmark, and a preface by writers such as Penelope Fitzgerald, Nina Bawden and Polly Toynbee.
Lydia Fellgett will talk generally about Persephone Books and then about some of the amazing neglected authors that they have put back in print.
'There are cute books, there are beautiful books and then there are Persephone books.' The Irish Times www.persephonebooks.co.uk
FWI PRESIDENT AND COMMITTEE
As the WI constitution decrees, all committee members who have been on the committee for three years (or more) have to stand down. Therefore at the end of September Joanna and myself will be stepping down as the co-presidents and there will also be a number of vacancies on the committee to fill. Some committee members would like to stay on but this is also a time for new blood and your chance to be involved in the running of the FWI.
We will be looking for a committee of 7 people for roles including: President, Treasurer, Membership, Events, IT and Speaker Co-ordinator We will be asking for nominations by the August meeting and then there will be a chance for every FWI member to have a say in who they want as the President/on the committee with voting taking place at the September meeting.
If this is something you would like to be involved in/have any questions about please email fulhamwi@gmail.com … it’s a fantastic opportunity and I have certainly enjoyed my time on the committee.
EVENTS

"The Time Travelers Wife" - Audrey Niffengger 'This is the extraordinary love story of Clare and Henry who met when Clare was six and Henry thirty six, were married when Clare was twenty two and Henry thirty. Impossible but true, because Henry suffers from a rare condition where his genetic clock periodically resets and he finds himself pulled suddenly into the past or future. In the face of this force they can neither prevent nor control, Henry and Clare's struggle to lead normals lives is both intensely moving and entirely unforgettable'
See you on Monday,
Fulham WI committee xx
