Mikaela Davies on The Alexander Technique
 
Mikaela will be giving a brief overview of the Alexander  Technique and how it works.  She will explain how it can help not only with specific problems - such as back pain, repetitive strain injuries, and stress - but also its importance in areas such as sport, the performing arts and simple activities such as lifting objects without causing pain or damage.

 

As always, the meeting will be in the upstairs room at the Peterborough/Southern Cross pub on the New Kings Road (on the junction of Wandsworth Bridge Road) nearest tube is Fulham Broadway.  Please find here a link to Google Maps for directions.  We look forward to welcoming new members and returning members alike.

 
2010 CHARITY

Bishop Creighton House

 

For 100 years Bishop Creighton House has been:

Caring for older people: With daily phone calls, home safety checks, help after hospital discharge and neighbourhood safety initiatives.

Mentoring the young: With mentoring programs, employment and learning opportunities for youngsters with learning difficulties and installation of safety equipment at parents homes.

 

The charity is based in Fulham and we will invite the charity to come and speak to us in the coming months to give us more insight into their work.  In the meantime, their website is www.creightonhouse.org.uk. Hopefully we will be able to get involved in the work the charity does as well as being able to give them proceeds from our fundraising.

Theatre Group: Mrs. Warren's Profession by Bernard Shaw

What is Mrs Warren’s profession? Her daughter Vivie has never really known much about her mother. A prim young woman, she has enjoyed a comfortable upbringing, a Cambridge education and a generous monthly allowance. Now she has ambitions to go into Law. Is it conceivable that all this privilege and respectability has been financed from the proceeds of the oldest profession? How will Vivie react when she finds out the awful truth about her mother’s ill-gotten gains?
 
Shaw’s ultimate test of a mother-daughter relationship is one of his most witty and provocative plays. Written in 1894 but banned from performance until the racy 1920s, Mrs Warren’s Profession lays bare the rampant hypocrisy of Victorian society and its constrained morals.
 

Jewellery Making
Friday, 21 May from 6:30 – 9pm

Come along for the evening and make a beautiful cocktail ring (or two).This is a fun filled, creative class (non-creatives are very welcome!).

Throughout the evening the expert tutor will guide you through the full process of making your ring from scratch. We will use a mixture of crystals beads, pearls and semi-precious stones combined with silver or gold wire to make your statement ring.  Not only is this class a great evening with like-minded others but you will also have a range of pieces to take home with you. Most people make at least 2-3 cocktail rings on the night and it is a great, fun activity to do after work for a relaxing and creative evening.
 
Full payment of £40 is required to book your place.  The fee includes all materials and as much tea, coffee and biscuits as we like.  Venue is near Chancery Lane in the heart of London.
 
 
Polo in the Park

In 2009, the inaugural ‘Polo in the Park’ thrilled a sell out 25,000 spectators as polo returned for the first time in 70 years to its' historic home at Hurlingham Park in central London. Polo in the Park brings together a dazzling combination of international polo and family entertainment to form an unforgettable day out.

We have 6 general admission tickets up for grabs, at £20 each. General admission tickets enable you access into Hurlingham Park grounds and all public facilities within the park, but not the grandstand seating area.  If you are interested, please contact us as tickets are available on a strictly first-come, first-served basis and full payment is needed to guarantee your place.

Jam making

Saturday, 12 June

 
The wonderful Betty Domini will again be teaching us how to make jams and chutneys from 10 – 2:30pm at Holy Cross High School, Sandal Road, New Malden.  There will be a Jam Festival at the WI’s Denman College from 20-21 November, so if you are at all competitive please plan to put your newly acquired skills to good use! 

 

Cost is £10 (to be paid in advance).  There will also be a small ‘ingredients’ charge to pay in cash on the day – probably about £3-£5. This will include a light lunch.

Parsons Green Fair

Use your skills from the jam making to whip something up for the Parson’s Green Fair!  This is a hugely profitable fundraiser for the Fulham WI, and all donations are welcome.  Individual cakes/cupcakes/cookies are more successful.  If you are unable to attend but would like to contribute, please let us know as that can be arranged.

 

 

Chelsea Physic Garden Dinner

We are planning a dinner at the Chelsea Physic Garden for up to 20 people – partners and friends will be welcome but feel free to come alone as well.  Cost will be around £35.00 including a 3-course dinner (drinks not provided), admission charge, and a tour beforehand.  Please let us know if you have some interest.
