SPEAKER
Sarah Tucker - Writing a Novel
Everyone has a book inside them, or so they think. Sarah Tucker, broadcaster, journalist, became a novelist with a chance meeting at a party where a lady suggested she write a book. The lady was the commissioning editor of Harlequin Mills and Boon. Sarah does not write about princes, she writes about frogs, and seven novels later, has two of them being made into film and TV. Author of best seller THE PLAYGROUND MAFIA, and THE LAST YEAR OF BEING SINGLE, Sarah shares how it is possible to fictionalize your life in print. and get away with it. And what turns a good story into a publishable book.
Sarah will bring copies of her published books with her (cash and cheques only) and suggests bringing a pen and paper as people regularly tell her they wish they had written down what she has said!
Rory Gillert - Bishop Creighton House
We also have Rory Gillert, the Chief Executive of the Bishop Creighton House Foundation who will talk to us about the charity and the work it does in our community which will be great as they are our charity of the year and we will be able to work towards this at the Parsons Green Fair on Saturday 3 July.
As always, the meeting will be in the upstairs room at the Peterborough/Southern Cross pub on the New Kings Road (on the junction of Wandsworth Bridge Road) nearest tube is Fulham Broadway. Please find here a link to Google Maps for directions. We look forward to welcoming new members and returning members alike.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Alexander Technique Follow-Up
Wednesday, 9 June at 7pm
Following last month's speaker we are thinking of setting up a taster session or a practical workshop for WI members. Please let us know if you have some interest.
Additionally Mikaela Davies is having a small party to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Alexander Technique Practice at the Alwyne Castle in North London on June the 9th at 7:00. Please let us know if you have any interest and we can send an RSVP.
Jam making
Saturday, 12 June at 10am
The wonderful Betty Domini will again be teaching us how to make jams and chutneys from 10 – 2:30pm at Holy Cross High School, Sandal Road, New Malden. There will be a Jam Festival at the WI’s Denman College from 20-21 November, so if you are at all competitive please plan to put your newly acquired skills to good use!
Jam making is now fully booked. We can take names in reserve in case we have some drops out. Cost is £10 (to be paid in advance). There will also be a small ‘ingredients’ charge to pay in cash on the day – probably about £3-£5. This will include a light lunch.
Imperial War Museum Cookery Demonstrations
Saturday 12 June and 19 June
The Imperial War Museum are holding live cookery demonstrations with hints and tips from a wartime kitchen. Please see the attached flyer for more details and contact information.
Brazil Brazil - Theatre Group
Tuesday, 15 June at 7:30pm
We have held 15 tickets for Brazil Brazil on Tuesday 15th June. It starts at 7pm at the Udderbelly on the South Bank and lasts for 70 minutes with no interval. Tickets are £18 or £14.40 if ten of us go. Some people have already paid up but please bring cash or cheques to the meeting so that the tickets can be confirmed on the morning after the meeting. There are lots of eating and drinking places around the venue so perhaps, if it is a nice evening or if we want to, we can have something to eat and drink together afterwards?
Theatre Group Dates
We have set the following dates for 2010 theatre outings. Please enter them into your diary and we will work out hat we want to go and see nearer the time.
Tuesday 14th September
Tuesday 30th November
Baking for Breastfeeding Awareness Week
Westminster PCT are holding 3 events during 'Breastfeeding Awareness week' which runs 21st June - 27th June 2010 to promote the concept of healthy, nutritious breastfeeding. As the WI is heavily involved in promoting childrens' healthy eating, they would like us to support the three events by baking cakes, scones and biscuits? They are expecting aroound 40-50 persons to attend each 3 hour event. The message we want to promote is that nutritious food is essential for Mother and Baby so if mother is eating well baby will benefit from this through her breastmilk. Please let us know if you would be interested in in promoting this important message to antenatal mums and we can make arrangements. The dates are as follows:
Tuesday 22nd, Mickey Star Children’s Centre, St Michaels Street, W2 1QR
Wednesday 23rd Queens Park Children’s Centre, Dart Street, W10 4LD
Thursday 24th June the Portman Early Childhood Centre, 12 -18 Salisbury Street, NW8 8DE
Parsons Green Fair
Saturday, 3 July
Use your skills from the jam making to whip something up for the Parson’s Green Fair! This is a hugely profitable fundraiser for the Fulham WI, and all donations are welcome. Individual cakes/cupcakes/cookies are more successful. If you are unable to attend but would like to contribute, please let us know as that can be arranged.
Chelsea Physic Garden Dinner
Wednesday, 28 July
We are planning a dinner at the Chelsea Physic Garden for up to 20 people – partners and friends will be welcome but feel free to come alone as well. The evening includes a 3-course dinner (drinks not provided), admission charge, and a tour beforehand. The cost of £35 needs to be received by the 15th June to secure a place. We have provisionally booked for 20 but need a deposit to confirm. Please bring cash or cheques to the next meeting.
