FEBRUARY SPEAKER
Actress Fiona-Jane Weston is no stranger to women’s groups. Since her youth, she has been pondering over the place of women in society and the advances they have made over the past 100 years. She grew up in Queensland where Germaine Greer and a momentous feminist movement werespawned in response to the “red neck” macho culture for which that state was so renowned.
Then came university and a degree in Chinese history and culture, before going to live and work behind the Bamboo Curtain. Here, she was able tostudy first hand the effects of Chairman Mao’s reforms on women. Further experience in the UK as a founder member of the Radical Actress Guild gave Fiona-Jane insights intohow women can sometimes be their own worst enemy when it comes to improving their own lot. These experiences haveled her to create a cabaret around these very themes and will form the basis of her talk.
Her show 20th Century Woman will be performed at The Pheasantry in Chelsea on March the 8th, International Women’s Day. Interestingly, Germaine Greer once lived at The Pheasantry while she was writing The Female Eunuch! The talk will include a short excerpt fromthe show.
As always, the meeting will be in the upstairs room at the Peterborough /Southern Cross pub on the New Kings Road (on the junction of Wandsworth Bridge Road ) nearest tube is Fulham Broadway. Please find here a link to Google Maps for directions. We look forward to welcoming new members and returning members alike.

The idea for this meeting came about at a committee meeting where we were all talking about our mothers and their institutes so we thought why not bring them along to ours!
