APRIL SPEAKER
Faye holds a Degree & Masters in Sports Science from Loughborough University and has written and delivered World Class conditioning programmes for a wide range of sports and athletes representing Great Britain at Olympic, World Championship, European and Commonwealth level. Faye works at a national level in team sports for several Premiership football and Rugby clubs, including 2009 Guinness Premiership Champions, Leicester Tigers and Finalists, London Irish. Faye personally trained England Player Josh Lewsey for 3 years to keep him at the top of his game.
As a result he says this about Faye:
“The physical demands of professional sports raise various challenges. So often do athletes waste energy with ineffective training without often knowing that they are doing so. As such, goals need to be aligned with a specific and effective training programme based on proven research. In my experience Faye Downey has the best scientific knowledge of any fitness coach I’ve worked with, but what’s more, has also the practical ability to relate this to physical results.”
Josh Lewsey, MBE, Fullback, Wing or Centre for London Wasps and England RFU
Faye was a member of the coaching team for England RFU during the 2007 Rugby World Cup and helped prepare Joe Worsley for his 2009 Lions Squad selection. Faye has recently travelled to Riyadh where she trained the Princess of Saudi Arabia after her knee surgery, and continues to return every 8 weeks to help in this process. Equally recent news, Faye has just been asked to return to train the England Rugby team with 3 other coaches for the World Cup 2011.
All of this work is done under the blanket of her Limited Company Oracle, which she set up in 2008. Please visit the site at http://www.oracle-elite.com
As a Fulham WI member Faye has commented on how inspired she has been at the talks given by the army, charities and of course the first female Beefeater! Indeed, Faye is the first and only woman to ever coach a national side, she is the only woman working in strength and conditioning in Professional Rugby. Volunteering to follow in that line up Faye hopes to inspire other members to follow their passions, whatever they may be, as she shares her own passion, stories and fitness tips with the group!
The talk will be "A Passion for Sport!" and will include ideas for all age groups on keeping trim, active and healthy! For those wishing to try out a few tips please wear comfortable clothes!
As always, the meeting will be in the upstairs room at the Peterborough /Southern Cross pub on the New Kings Road (on the junction of Wandsworth Bridge Road ) nearest tube is Fulham Broadway. Please find here a link to Google Maps for directions. We look forward to welcoming new members and returning members alike.
