Dear Ladies
Spring has sprung it would seem, London is looking beautiful and we've even got a drought so it would seem that winter is over. Longer days mean more daylight and with luck more spring in your step. To urge those creative juices, our April meeting will be a pin cushion workshop led by Natalie Chalaby of Patchi's and Flaxi's fame, which should be fun and at the end of the evening you'll have something to take home that you have made yourself. Having enjoyed Robin Bayley last month and his tales of newly discovered family in Mexico this month we have a meeting with a chance to do something and NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY!!!
The meeting is, as usual, upstairs at The Southern Cross Pub on the New Kings Road on the junction with Wandsworth Bridge Road and will start at 7.30pm. Do hope you'll be able to join us. As I mentioned at the last meeting, herewith Natalie's email with a small list of things that could be useful to bring with you if you have them.
Natalie writes ......
I am so excited as I have been making some lovely examples of pin cushions, which the ladies will be able to make easily by hand.
Here is the small list of items they will need to bring to the workshop. Please advise them not to spend too much money, as the idea is that they should have a look to see what they have at home first:
1. scissors which can cut fabric
2. pins
3. normal hand sewing needles
4. embroidery needle or a needle with a large eye
5. normal thread, any colour
6. silky embroidery thread (which is thicker than normal thread, any colour(s) )
7. 40x40cm piece of fabric
8. a ruler
9. a biro
10. any colour Felt to compliment the embroidery thread and the fabric
11. anything to embellish the pin cushion - old buttons, beads, sequins, tassels, ribbons
Please tell the ladies that I will be bringing some of everything aswell should they get stuck on a few items.
Especially for the workshop, I have ordered tiny feather cushion pads 15cm x15cm and toy stuffing so if they would like to pay me £2 for either of these to stuff their pin cushion, it would be great. This would be much better for the ladies than them having to buy their own big bag of stuffing, which may cost £5 upwards from the shops and which they might not use again after the workshop.

OTHER STUFF!!!!
Queen Elizabeth II by Cecil Beaton at the V&A – Friday 13 April – TBC (http://www.vam.ac.uk/)
The photographs of the British royal family by Sir Cecil Beaton (1904-1980) were central to shaping the monarchy's public image in the mid-20th century. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was still a young princess when she first sat for Beaton in 1942. Over the next three decades he would be invited to photograph the Queen on many significant occasions. The V&A Shop celebrates these historic and iconic images of Queen Elizabeth II in the year of her Diamond Jubilee.
The V&A WI have very generously offered to host tea at 5.30pm over a quick chat before heading into this exhibition at 6.00pm. The first 10 members who sign up for this will get free entry to the exhibition. For those of you who chose to come to the exhibition at 6.00pm entry is £7.00.
This exhibition will sell out so we are keen to organise this before it is too late. Please can you let Toto know if you are interested in attending.
